The 2009 Bike Run

Renaming of the Alford Charity Bike Run
It has been decided that the annual Alford Bike Run will be renamed “ The Karen Teale Memorial Bike Run” in honour and memory of Alford resident and local G.P Karen Teale, who sadly lost her brave and dignified battle with breast cancer on 4th November, 2003.Karen was loved and respected by many people in the village and beyond and will be missed by all. She leaves behind a husband, Steve, and three children Callum, Eilidh and Shona. Steve and Callum took part in the 2003 main bike run, while Eilidh and Shona cycled in the children’s event. Karen was herself a keen sportswoman, and would no doubt have cycled herself had illness not prevented her from doing so. Karen received both treatment and support during her illness from the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary “Anchor Unit” and it has therefore been decided to make the unit an annual beneficiary of the bike run.
From 2004 the sponsorship money raised will be divided equally between:
One local Alford cause |
One National cause - preferably a recognised charity with direct links to Cancer cure or care |
| Alford Rotary in 2009 have added their own charity - Rotary foundation to receive a small percentage of the money raised |
